Guardians Get Close Win Over Royals, 3-2
|
The Cleveland Guardians had to overcome a good performance from Kansas City pitcher Daniel Vitriago to claim a 3-2 win at Kauffman Stadium. Vitriago went 6 innings and allowed no runs. Cleveland reliever Kyle Nelson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. John Doxakis absorbed the loss. With the win, Cleveland goes to 8-13.
Cleveland used the clutch hitting of Jeferson Quero to snag the win. The catcher drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Guardians ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Guardians manager Mike Parrish.
