Red Sox Get Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
Boston starter Bryan Mata had a strong outing against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Boston reliever Oddanier Mosqueda picked up the win to move to 1-0. Trevor Stephan suffered the loss. Kenley Jansen earned the save for Boston, his 5th.
Michael Siani drove in one run for Boston. The 24-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Trevor Stephan. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Cleveland manager Mike Parrish. "But we decided not to take it."
The win brings the Red Sox to 7-12, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
