Mets Take Nail-Biter Over Nationals
|
The New York Mets outlasted the Washington Nationals, 8-5, in 18 innings. Luisangel Acuna played a key role, going 3-for-8 for New York. The winner was New York reliever Jose Butto, now 1-0. The loser was Zach Pop. The Nationals are now 7-12.
New York got a knockout punch from Pete Alonso. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 18th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Acuna said in his postgame press conference.
