Royals Edge Past Braves, 7-6
|
The Kansas City Royals overcame a good performance by Atlanta third baseman Austin Riley to knock off Atlanta, 7-6, at Truist Park. Riley went 5 for 6 with a home run and 4 singles. The winner in relief was Joe Barlow. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 3-5. The Royals, at 78-84, sit in third place in the American League Central Division.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Jeison Guzman, the Kansas City shortstop. Guzman had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning to put the Royals ahead, 7-6. For the game, Guzman had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"This game tested our mettle," said Guzman.
