Phillies Go Down to Defeat, 6-3
|
The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Nationals Park, knocking off the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3. On the mound for Washington was left-hander MacKenzie Gore, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winning pitcher was Gore, now 2-0. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Getting the save was DJ Herz, his 4th.
Victor Robles dealt the Phillies a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Washington leading 1-0, Robles, who finished 5th in the NL in stolen bases with 28 in 2019, hit a 2-1 sinker for a 2-run single.
"MacKenzie -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Nationals manager Joe Bubanj. "He was the key to us winning."
Washington has a mark of 5-4 after the win.
