Tigers Come Up Short at New York, 3-2
|
The New York Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers, 3-2. Doing his part was first baseman Spencer Torkelson, who hit 2 home runs. New York reliever Brooks Raley got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Matt Manning was tagged with the loss. Edwin Díaz locked down his 1st save.
In the bottom of the sixth, New York first baseman Pete Alonso gave his team the lead. With no one out and a runner on 1st, Polar Bear hit his 1st home run of the year. Detroit pitcher Matt Manning surrendered it. With that, the Mets jumped in front, 3-2.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Detroit manager Snake Clement said following the tough loss.
The win puts New York at 3-2.
