The Cubs grabbed a win, 6-4, at Globe Life Field, overcoming a fine effort from Texas pitcher Kumar Rocker. Rocker went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Adbert Alzolay earned the save, his 1st. Chicago goes to 1-2.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Yan Gomes to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cubs on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"That's a solid team effort right there," said Gomes. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
