Reds Edge Past Nationals, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Cincinnati Reds and the Washington Nationals, pitcher Andrew Abbott was the difference between victory and defeat. The Cincinnati left-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Reds win. The winner was Andrew Nardi in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Matt Cronin took the loss. Cincinnati goes to 2-0.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Warming Bernabel came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Matt Cronin, he hit a 2-2 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 3-2.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Abbott.
