The Houston Astros opened their 2024 season with a disappointing 8-2 loss to the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park. Left Fielder Spencer Jones was a big part of the win for New York. He went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Carlos Rodón picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 1-0.
Jones had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 slider from Spencer Arrighetti, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Yankees a 6-2 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Jones.
In postgame comments to the New York Daily News, Jones said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
