Cincinnati Edges Kansas City, 5-4
|
Cincinnati beat Kansas City at Great American Ball Park, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to center fielder Randy Arozarena. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Eury Perez got credit for the win, improving to 9-6. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5.1 innings. Clay Holmes earned his 33rd save in 37 tries.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Reds grabbed the lead when Matt McLain rapped a two-out single. Cincinnati was trailing 3-2, when McLain hit a 2-run single off Frank Mozzicato to put his team in front, 4-3.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Arozarena said in reaction to the win.
The Reds go to 75-84, putting them third in the National League Central Division.
