Bernal Hits 2 Roundtrippers, Cardinals Win, 6-4
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4, the lion's share of the credit going to catcher Leonardo Bernal. On the day, Bernal belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Cardinals. Guillermo Zuniga got credit for the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. Evan Phillips converted his 34th save in 40 tries.
Bernal had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-2 fastball from Devin Williams, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Cardinals a 6-4 lead. It was the 20th home run of the year for Bernal.
Said St. Louis manager David Mendel: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
The first-place Cardinals, at 83-74, now lead their division by 2 games.
