Cardinals Edge Guardians, 4-3
|
St. Louis second baseman Brendan Donovan picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Cleveland Guardians, 4-3. Ryan Helsley sewed up the save, his 35th. After today's action, St. Louis sits at 86-69; Cleveland slips to 61-95.
Had Lars Nootbaar not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Nootbaar hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cardinals.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Cleveland manager Mike Parrish. "But we decided not to take it."
