The Seattle Mariners got a sterling performance from pitcher Penn Murfee, but the Texas Rangers still prevailed, 5-3. Murfee threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Reliever Brett Martin picked up the win. His record improves to 4-5. Gabe Speier took the loss. Texas now sits in first place in the American League West Division at 85-70.

Texas won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Gabe Speier on the mound for Seattle, first baseman Justin Foscue hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Rangers fans to their feet.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Foscue. "I like it."
