Phillies Drop Mets, 3-2
|
Citi Field was the site of a tense game between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
Philadelphia Phillies starter Griff McGarry turned in a sterling performance against the New York Mets, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Jose Alvarado snagged the win in relief. In 1.1 innings, the left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits. He's now 6-4 on the season. Earning the save was Brandon Beckel. He's now cashed in 1 of 1 save opportunities.
Philadelphia used a clutch hit from Kyle Schwarber to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Phillies ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This was a tough loss," said New York manager Dave Gawron. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
Philadelphia now sits at 80-73, while New York falls to 94-60.
