Washington Fall Again, 6-1
|
Behind a fine performance from Pete Alonso, the New York Mets knocked off the Washington Nationals, 6-1. Alonso hit 2 home runs for the Mets. The first-place Mets have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Kris Bryant, who led the NL in wins above replacement with 6.6 in 2016, came through for New York with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth. The left fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 3 RBI.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said New York manager Dave Gawron.
