Toronto Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Rogers Centre, knocking off the Toronto Blue Jays, 1-0. On the mound for St. Louis was left-hander Zack Thompson, who played a pivotal role in the win. Thompson, the winner, moves to 12-5. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. Ryan Helsley earned the save for St. Louis, his 33rd of the year.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from catcher Willson Contreras. For the game, Contreras went 1 for 3 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 15th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Contreras, "and go after the next one."
With the win, St. Louis has a record of 82-67. Toronto falls to 68-82.
