Royals Win, 14-13, Versus Houston
|
The Kansas City Royals withstood an impressive performance by Houston second baseman Jose Altuve to defeat the Astros, 14-13, at Kauffman Stadium. Altuve went 5 for 5 with a double, 4 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 and driving in 6. Kansas City reliever Alex Reyes picked up the win to move to 1-1. Aaron Combs suffered the loss. Kansas City is now 70-80, Houston 70-80.
The Royals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 25-year old center fielder Jean Ramirez landed a big blow. He turned a 3-1 fastball from Aaron Combs into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Kauffman Stadium denizens into a frenzy and sent the Royals home with a thrilling 14-13 win.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Ramirez.
