Phillies Top Mets, 9-1
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Zack Wheeler had all his pitches working at Citizens Bank Park. His stellar performance paved the way for an easy 9-1 Philadelphia win over the New York Mets. Wheeler, now 9-11, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The Phillies are now 77-70, while the Mets fall to 90-58.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from catcher J.T. Realmuto. For the game, Realmuto went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 3-1 lead.
Phillies manager Michael Ames had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
