Kevin Gausman never let Tampa Bay get something going. The Cleveland right-hander commanded his splitter in pitching the Guardians to a 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Gausman, now 6-15. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 2. Cleveland, at 73-71, sits in second place in the American League Central Division.

Cleveland used the timely hitting of Jose Ramirez to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Guardians ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We busted our tails," said Tampa Bay manager Mike Leitao. "But we came up short."
