Fans watched the Houston Astros and the Cincinnati Reds fight to the finish.

The Houston Astros did just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4, at Great American Ball Park. Houston pitcher Lance McCullers Jr., in particular, had a standout performance. In 5.2 innings, McCullers Jr. surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 8 and walking 3. He allowed no runs.

Houston relied on the bat of Yainer Diaz to get the win. The catcher ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Astros ahead, 5-0. For the game, Diaz had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Cincinnati manager Jim Silveira Jr.. "But we decided not to take it."

At 76-63, Houston is in first place in the American League West Division.
