Mead Hits Two Homers in 6-1 Win for Oakland
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners, 6-1, at Oakland Coliseum today. Leading the charge for Oakland was designated hitter Curtis Mead. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Daulton Jefferies was the winner. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Zach Jackson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 31 of 35 save opportunities.
Mead had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-1 fastball from Gabe Speier, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Athletics a 1-0 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Mead.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Mead said after the game.
The Mariners, now 59-79, have lost 4 in a row.
