Reds Bridle Athletics, 3-1
|
The Cincinnati Reds got a strong performance from pitcher Rhett Lowder, who stymied the Oakland offense en route to a win, 3-1, at Great American Ball Park. Lowder, now 10-6, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Alexis Diaz got the save, his 25th in 29 chances.
Matt McLain had a big 2-run home run for the Reds in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Kirby Snead and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 19th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 3-0.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Cincinnati manager Jim Silveira Jr..
Cincinnati, at 61-73, sits in last place in the National League Central Division.
