Orioles Need Extra Innings to Top Mets, 5-3
|
Fans who congregated at Citi Field were treated to extra-inning drama.
The Baltimore Orioles took New York pitcher Jose Berrios's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Citi Field. The final score had Baltimore getting past the Mets, 5-3. Berrios went 5.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. Felix Bautista earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 5-3.
Terrin Vavra, the 27-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Vavra contributed a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put Baltimore up, 5-3.
"This is truly a great team to play with," Vavra said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."
The American League East Division-leading Orioles have a record of 77-50.
