Stijn Van Der Schaaf, who is on pace for 269 strikeouts this season, was locked in. The right-hander led the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park. The winning pitcher was Van Der Schaaf, now 10-3. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. Josh Hader was credited with the save for Boston, his 35th of the season.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but JoJo Ingrassia didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Cleveland trailing 3-1, Ingrassia retired Angel Martinez to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Ingrassia, with a wink.
Boston has now won 4 games in a row.
