Toronto Wins, 6-5, Over Red Sox
|
Boston wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Angel Jimenez, falling to the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-5. Jimenez threw 7.2 innings allowing 1 run for the losing team. Hideki Morikawa claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 3-0. Brusdar Graterol earned the save, his 3rd.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Oneil Cruz to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Cruz, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
The Blue Jays win now puts them at 50-66.
