Angels Dump Mariners, 4-1
|
Los Angeles beat Seattle on the strength of starting pitcher Chris Rodriguez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. Max Gieg earned his 23rd save, after closing out the game. The first-place Mariners now sit at 67-38.
Los Angeles got a big at-bat from Iwate, Japan native Shohei Ohtani, who in the bottom of the third hit a 2-run double. It was his 24th double of the season and put the Angels ahead, 3-0.
In postgame remarks, Ohtani hailed his team's "grit."
