Braves Get 6-3 Win Versus New York
|
With third baseman Austin Riley leading the charge, the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets, 6-3, at Citi Field. Riley, who finished 3rd in the NL in hits with 179 in 2021, was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Jared Shuster was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Earning his 5th save for Atlanta was Daysbel Hernandez.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Ozzie Albies to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Braves ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Riley told the Atlanta Citizen.
Atlanta, at 56-49, holds down second place in the National League East Division.
