Detroit wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Dylan Smith, falling to the Cleveland Guardians, 4-3. Smith threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Cleveland is now 50-52.

Andres Gimenez came through with a big-time hit for Cleveland. The second baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"I like what I saw today," said Cleveland manager Mike Parrish, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
