Cardinals Snag 4-3 Win
|
The Atlanta Braves got a sterling performance from pitcher Ian Anderson, but the St. Louis Cardinals still prevailed, 4-3. Anderson threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Jalen Beeks, 3-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Ryan Helsley finished to wrap up his 23rd save.
St. Louis used a timely hit from Tyler O'Neill to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Atlanta manager Ron Roeble. "But we decided not to take it."
The Cardinals now have a record of 55-45.
