Jace Stoffal was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Globe Life Field. In fact, the Minnesota Twins right-hander was instrumental in his team's 3-1 victory over the Texas Rangers. The winner was Stoffal. He threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Kyle Carr. Alex Scherff picked up the save, his 32nd.
Jose Salas, who is tied for 7th in the AL in doubles with 26, had a direct impact on the outcome. Salas contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Minnesota up, 3-1.
"I went out and just tried to do my job," said Stoffal.
Minnesota is 58-40 and Texas, with the loss, 50-48.
