Mets Take Tight Tangle
The rain came, as predicted, but the New York Mets and Washington Nationals were able to complete their ballgame.

Good production from catcher Francisco Alvarez helped the New York Mets topple the Washington Nationals, 7-6. Alvarez went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Mets. New York reliever Caleb Ferguson, who finished 4th in the AL in saves with 41 in 2026, was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-0. David Bednar took the loss for Washington.

Luisangel Acuna was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"The crowd was boisterous today," said Alvarez.

New York is now 46-48.
