Marlins Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Astros, 2-1
|
Miami Marlins starter Dax Fulton was in fine form as he helped his team beat the Houston Astros, 2-1. Miami reliever Matt Andriese was the winner. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Matthew Boyd. Tanner Scott was credited with the save, his 3rd in 5 tries.
Miami used the timely hitting of Travis d'Arnaud to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Marlins on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Marlins manager Creig McBride told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
Miami, at 48-45, occupies third place in the National League East Division.
