Blue Jays Sneak By Giants, 2-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants, 2-1, at Oracle Park. Starting pitcher Ricky Tiedemann was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Toronto reliever Zebulon Vermillion picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Taylor Rogers was tagged with the loss. Getting the save was John Doxakis, his 15th.
Kevin Kiermaier, the three-time Gold Glove Award winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Kiermaier contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Toronto up, 1-0.
"The old adage is true," said Kiermaier. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The last-place Blue Jays are 41-53.
