Guardians Edge Giants, 4-3
|
The Cleveland Guardians overcame a fine performance by San Francisco third baseman Anthony Rendon to defeat the Giants, 4-3, at Progressive Field. Rendon went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. The winning pitcher was Triston McKenzie. He's now 6-6. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits for the Guardians. Picking up the save was Emmanuel Clase. He's now 17 for 22 in save chances.
Andres Gimenez, who is tied for 4th in the AL in triples with 3, aided the Cleveland cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the second baseman was 1-3.
San Francisco manager Sal Gaudio said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The win puts Cleveland at 36-54.
