Mets Topple Nationals, 7-3, as Nimmo Shines
|
The New York Mets downed the Washington Nationals, 7-3. The hitting star was center fielder Brandon Nimmo. Nimmo was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 for the Mets. New York reliever Seth Lugo picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Cade Cavalli was saddled with the loss. Washington now has a 5-game losing streak.
J.D. Martinez, the 36-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Martinez contributed a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 5-3.
Nimmo called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
