Nationals Lose to Red Sox, 7-3
|
The Boston Red Sox picked up a win at Nationals Park, taking down the Washington Nationals, 7-3. Starting pitcher Stijn Van Der Schaaf was a big reason why. Van Der Schaaf, the winner, moves to 9-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 2 walks. The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Red Sox.
Boston used a clutch at-bat from Lyonell James to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Boston manager Joe Curtis.
