Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals.

The inspired effort of Kansas City left fielder Junior Marino was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the St. Louis Cardinals. Marino was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Evan Phillips was credited with the save, his 23rd in 28 tries.

Chase Davis drew 1 walk in his only trip to the plate for St. Louis. The 27-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Ben Joyce. It was his 20th walk of the season.

"It was a good effort all around," said Davis.

The Cardinals, at 49-36, lead by one game in their division.
