Volpe Excels in 4-2 New York Win
|
New York second baseman Anthony Volpe helped his team beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2. Volpe, who leads the AL in runs scored with 60, went 2 for 2 for the Yankees. Picking up the win was Gerrit Cole. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 1. Picking up the save was Clay Holmes. He's now 22 for 25 in save chances.
With New York leading 1-0 in the top of the second, Volpe hit a fastball from Kevin Gausman for a 2-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.
"Winning is always a team effort," Volpe said after the game.
New York has a record of 50-36, placing them second in the American League East Division.
