Red Sox Deal Nationals 7-3 Defeat
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the Washington Nationals, 7-3, in American League action at Nationals Park. The standout performance belonged to Boston pitcher and Tupelo, Mississippi, native Brandon Woodruff. In 7 innings, Woodruff surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 7 and walking 7. He allowed 2 runs. With the win, Boston upped its record to 51-35.
Boston used a well-timed hit by Lyonell James to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said James.
