Blue Jays Solve Red Sox, 4-2
|
The Toronto Blue Jays weathered a fine game by Boston second baseman Nick Gordon to upend the Red Sox, 4-2, at Rogers Centre. Gordon went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Clayton Beeter. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-2. The last-place Blue Jays have won 5 consecutive games.
The Blue Jays got an important contribution from third baseman Santiago Espinal, who in the bottom of the second punched a 1-0 fastball into right for a 2-run double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-1.
Espinal said his team "executed a good game plan."
