Yankees Edge Nationals, 6-5
|
New York and Washington duked it out and the Yankees came out victorious.
The New York Yankees beat the Washington Nationals, 6-5, at Yankee Stadium. New York shortstop Anthony Volpe led the way. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. New York reliever Colton Hartman picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. David Bednar was saddled with the loss.
Had J.P. Crawford not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Crawford hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Yankees.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Volpe told the New York Daily News.
The New York win streak is now 4 games.
