Twins Saddle Athletics with 8-6 Loss
The Minnesota Twins withstood an impressive performance by Oakland catcher Tyler Soderstrom to defeat the Athletics, 8-6, at Target Field. Soderstrom was 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Louie Varland came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Jhoan Duran got credit for the save for Minnesota. It was his 16th of the year.

Jorge Polanco made an early impact for Minnesota when he stroked his 15th double of the season. The 2-run double, which came with two out in the bottom of the second, put the Twins on top, 5-2.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Twins manager Ryan Ranta. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

At 39-31, Minnesota is in second place in the American League Central Division.
