The first-place New York Mets took on the Arizona Diamondbacks in front of a spirited crowd.

New York got an elite performance from starting pitcher Jacob deGrom in taking a 4-1 decision over the Arizona Diamondbacks. deGrom got the win, improving to 6-2. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. deGrom allowed 1 run.

The Diamondbacks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mets going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging right fielder Anthony Santander came to the plate. Santander hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 slider from Arizona hurler Tyler Glasnow. It was Santander's 14th double of the year.

"Jacob was Jacob," said Mets manager Dave Gawron. "We know what we'll get whenever he takes the mound."

New York improves to 36-25 with the win. They lead their division by 3 games.
