Detroit beat Las Vegas on the strength of starting pitcher Reese Olson's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Carlos Marcano earned the save, his 13th. The setback makes Las Vegas 28-29.

Detroit took a 5-3 lead on Kerry Carpenter's 12th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Carpenter hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Las Vegas pitcher Ryan Brown visibly frustrated.

"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Olson.
