On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Houston Astros team, Gerrit Cole had a tough assignment. He delivered.

The New York Yankees right-hander dominated the hosts, tossing 7.2 innings of shutout ball and guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 10-0. Cole, 34, threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball in the contest. The win means New York now trails 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.

Cole allowed no runs on 2 hits over 7.2 innings for the Yankees. He walked 0 and struck out 6.

"This was a good win for us," said Cole. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
