The Tampa Bay Rays did just enough to sneak past the Kansas City Royals, 7-6, at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay third baseman Isaac Paredes, in particular, had a standout performance. Mason Montgomery earned the save for Tampa Bay, his 17th of the year. Tampa Bay is now 38-16, 4 games up in the American League East Division.

Had Corey Seager not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Seager hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Rays.

"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Rays manager Michael Jank, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
