Mariners Rally Past Yankees to Claim 2-1 Series Lead
|
The 23-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the New York Yankees worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Dan Griffin seemed like a risky move for the Yankees, but it was one of the few things that went right at T-Mobile Park today. Griffin tossed 5 solid innings, but it was all for naught after New York dropped a 5-4 decision. With the win, Seattle took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
The most significant at-bat for Seattle came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Mariners left fielder Manny Mora hit a run-scoring single to win the game.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Mora said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
