Nationals Edge Past Twins, 5-4
|
The Washington Nationals took Minnesota pitcher Chris Paddack's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Nationals Park. The final score had Washington getting past the Twins, 5-4. Paddack went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 5. DJ Herz earned the save, his 13th. The 4th-place Nationals raised their record to 23-25.
Had Yoander Rivero not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rivero hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Nationals.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Minnesota manager Ryan Ranta. "The effort was great."
