The New York Yankees knocked off the Kansas City Royals, 3-2, in American League action at Kauffman Stadium. New York pitcher and Helena, Alabama, native Richard Fitts had an outstanding performance. The 'W' lifts New York's record to 22-23.

Cal Conley had a direct impact on the outcome. Conley contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 3-2.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New York manager Sal Gaudio. "It's usually not just one thing."
