Astros Prevail, 3-1, Over Oakland
|
In a tight game between the Houston Astros and the Oakland Athletics, pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was terrific on the mound. The Houston right-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. In 5 innings, McCullers Jr. surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. With the victory, the Astros upped their record to 22-22.
The Athletics had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Astros going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 2019 Rookie of the Year Award winner Yordan Alvarez came to the plate. Alvarez hit a solo home run on a full count sinker from Oakland hurler Drew Rucinski. It was Alvarez's 13th home run of the year.
"Lance is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Houston manager James Woolsey.
